Gareth opted to enter a random selection of numbers by taking advantage of the Lucky Dip feature offered to players in the UK, and on Saturday morning he discovered that all of his five main numbers and two Lucky Star numbers had been drawn in the game to give him the jackpot win. Catherine was in the bedroom fixing her hair when Gareth broke the news to her.
“He came into the bedroom as white as a sheet, the ticket was shaking in his hand and I knew that something wasn’t right,” Catherine said. “When he tried to explain that he thought we’d won, I thought he was pulling my leg. I was in the middle of straightening my hair and told him I wasn’t very happy with being teased!
Catherine decided that she had better check the EuroMillions lottery results for herself, and she did that by first taking a look at the results on TV and then going online to double-check. The couple eventually called the lottery operator in the UK to confirm the win, and which point the reality of their success began to sink in.
Gareth and Catherine are now thinking about how to start spending their newfound wealth, and they already have a few ideas. Gareth plans to buy himself a box at Old Trafford so that he can watch his favourite football team, Manchester United, in style. The couple also intend to buy a new car and a villa abroad as well as take their family to Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida.
As well as changing their lives forever, this jackpot success has made Gareth and Catherine Bull the seventh biggest lottery winners in the UK. The biggest UK winners of all are of course Colin and Christine Weir, who landed a £161 million jackpot win in July 2011. Play EuroMillions this week and the next big winner could be you!
