Tonight’s draw is the 800th EuroMillions draw since the game began in February 2004 with just three participating countries - the UK, Spain and France. Austria, Belgium, Luxembourg, Portugal and Switzerland have since all joined in the fun and it has grown into the huge, big-money lottery that it is today.
In that time there have been 76 French jackpot winners, the most of any country, followed by Spain on 71, Portugal with 55 and the UK, where 49 ticket holders have hit the big time. The biggest possible jackpot of €190 million has been scooped twice, most recently by a Portuguese player on Friday October 24th 2014 and previously by Adrian and Gillian Bayford of Suffolk in August 2012.
Although Colin and Christine Weir of Largs in Scotland banked €185 million in July 2011, they actually won more in sterling that then the Bayfords - £161.6 million compared with £148.6 million - due to currency fluctuations.
