In November 2006, workers from Palethorpe’s Pie Factory scooped a colossal £6.7m after matching five main numbers and one Lucky Star. Almost a decade after their last victory, and with five of the original winners still present in the syndicate, the successful Salopians were at it again, seemingly proving that lightning really can strike twice.
In an interview with the Shropshire Star, Gary Parton, one of the five remaining winners from the syndicate’s last win, joyously gushed: “I was very shocked to find out we had won again. I couldn’t believe it at first. Not sure what we are going to spend the money on – still letting the news sink in at the moment.”
Gary’s brother and co-worker David Parton, who is also part of the syndicate, had a clearer idea as to what his share would be spent on: “I am going to spend the money on a new car as we desperately need one. Hopefully we will have enough left over for a holiday as well.” David, who was enjoying his first lottery success, was full of admiration for his sibling following his second surprising EuroMillions win: “My brother is a lucky bloke as he won previously.”
Lucky is definitely the right way to describe it. The syndicate overcame odds of three billion to one to secure a second big prize by correctly matching five main draw numbers and one Lucky Star. Syndicate leader Mary Viggers, another member of the original fortuitous five, was blown away by the event: “I feel very lucky. Some of the same members, the same department, the same room even – it is just unbelievable!”
