What Are EuroMillions Lucky Stars?
As well as choosing five main numbers between 1 and 50, EuroMillions players must select two extra numbers. These are known as the Lucky Stars, and the numbers have ranged from 1 to 12 since EuroMillions changes came into effect last September.
How Do They Work?
The Lucky Stars are drawn from a separate set of balls to the main numbers. This means it is possible for the numbers between 1 and 12 to be drawn as both main balls and Lucky Stars, and players can choose to have the same number(s) in their selection of main numbers and Lucky Stars if they wish.
Are They As Important As The Main Numbers?
The Lucky Stars are every bit as significant as the main numbers. In order to win the jackpot, you must match both Lucky Stars as well as all five main numbers. Out of all 13 EuroMillions prize tiers, there are only four in which you can win without matching a single Lucky Star.
How Should You Choose Your Lucky Stars?
Everyone who plays EuroMillions will have their own preference for how to select their Lucky Stars, just the same as with main numbers. However, as the range of numbers is limited, there could be more room for strategy.
If you fancied playing six lines, for example, you could use a different pair of Lucky Stars for each one and would be guaranteed to match both Lucky Stars across your six selections.
Alternatively, you could check out the EuroMillions Statistics page to find out which Lucky Stars have been drawn the most frequently. The numbers 2 and 9 have been the most common Lucky Stars since September 2016, and have been drawn together on three occasions in the past six months.
You can also use the Random Number Generator to pick a full selection of EuroMillions numbers, including Lucky Stars, in the hope of landing a big prize.
The EuroMillions jackpot tonight stands at £21 million (€25 million), and you can choose your numbers online now or visit an authorised retailer in one of the participating countries. If both your Lucky Stars come up, you could just walk away with the whole lot. Good luck!
