Winning after just two weeks
The winning syndicate – called Infonote, after the delivery notes they leave customers who are not home – was set up only two weeks prior to the win. Speaking to the press, the syndicate’s leader, Craig Davison, said they only set it up after hearing about the size of the EuroMillions jackpot.
“We actually only started the syndicate two weeks ago after hearing about a big rollover,” Craig said. “We decided you have got to be in it to win it so we went for it. And we are so glad we did. Everyone always dreams of winning the lottery and we obviously all hoped that our dreams would come true but I don’t think any of us really believed it would happen to us. It is something which always happens to other people.”
Craig buys all of the syndicate’s tickets online, and each member picks one line for each draw. Their winning line was 4, 17, 24, 27, 31, and the Lucky Star, 10. Members say the prize money will go towards home improvements and caravans.
EuroMillions jackpot rolls over again
Despite the syndicate’s big win, the EuroMillions jackpot has continued to roll over in recent weeks and was not won again in Tuesday’s draw, meaning it rolls over again. The jackpot now stands at a huge £66 million (€76 million).
While there is some way to go before it reaches the jackpot cap of €190 million, should a syndicate claim the top prize, it would be one of the biggest syndicate wins in the history of the draw. In January 2017, a group from Ireland claimed €88.5 million after matching all five main numbers and both Lucky Stars.
Benefits of a syndicate
Pooling your resources as part of a syndicate is one way of improving your chances of winning in EuroMillions. A lottery syndicate is simply an agreement between a group of people to share the cost of lottery tickets and split any prizes accordingly. By playing more than one ticket, your odds of winning are significantly improved.
With a lot of money on the line, syndicates need to be set up properly, which means creating a written syndicate agreement. This should include all the important rules and conditions of the syndicate, such as the names of the members, the costs involved, and what happens if any prizes are won.
You can see just how much your odds of winning are improved, and save time setting up your own by downloading a draft syndicate agreement. Alternatively, subscribe to a syndicate online and improve your odds of winning ahead of the next draw.
