Would You Spare a Thought for Others after a EuroMillions Win?

This evening will see EuroMillions fans attempt to snap up a jackpot worth a gigantic £79 million (€104 million), and in the process become the first top prize recipient of 2016. Undoubtedly, this would be enough money to change the winner's life, but after investments, spoiling relatives and a quick beach getaway, there’d be quite a lot of cash left over that could also change the lives of thousands of other people if the winner wished to do so.

More often than not, people who dream of winning the lottery envision buying a big house, a fleet of flashy cars and all the latest designer duds, but how many people might consider how rewarding it would feel to give something back to the community around them? Certainly, not every Tom, Dick and Harry are going to be deserving of a slice of your winnings, but supporting truly worthwhile good causes can leave you feeling content, knowing you’ve made a difference to the world you live in.

In July 2011, Chris and Colin Weir found their world turned upside-down when they discovered that they had won over £161.6 million (€185 million at the time), one of the largest Euromillions jackpots in history. Just two years after this memorable feat, the couple founded The Weir Charitable Trust, a charity that aims to administer support to Scottish groups, individuals or other charities providing services in the country. The foundation that focuses on five main areas in the community (health, sport, culture, recreational facilities and animal welfare) strives to provide support to charities generating a revenue of less than £100,000 a year.

Following the formation of the charity, the couple released a statement in which they expressed their joy at being able to give something back to the country they love: "We are delighted that the Weir Charitable Trust is now open for business. Since we won the EuroMillions lottery, it has been a privilege to be in a position to provide support where we could. We have been looking at finding a more structured way to share our good fortune on an ongoing basis across Scotland. It has taken some time to set up, but we are pleased that the trust will now allow us to do that at a time when good causes in Scotland are struggling.”

With such a huge EuroMillions jackpot on offer tonight, a win would be a fantastic opportunity to banish the winter blues for both you and those around you. You could support yourself, your family and friends and your favourite good causes for the rest of your days. To be in with a chance of claiming this colossal prize you can buy EuroMillions tickets online or via authorised retailers in participating countries. Best of luck!
