Dundee Player Misses Out on £1 Million As EuroMillions Prize Expires

The thought of buying a EuroMillions ticket which turns out to be worth a fantastic sum of money is what attracts millions of players to the game every week, but one participant has just missed out on a £1 million windfall after failing to claim their prize in time.

Millionaire Maker Prize Unclaimed Despite Best Efforts

The winning ticket was bought in Dundee, Scotland ahead of the draw on 14th November 2017, and it matched one of the night’s two Millionaire Maker codes. However, the UK National Lottery never heard from the player so the prize expired at midnight on 13th May.

It is now too late for the winner to come forward and the money will instead go towards helping good causes across the country. Lottery officials had tried to drum up attention and spread word around the Dundee area as the claim deadline approached, and players have now been urged to check their tickets regularly to make sure they do not suffer a similar fate.

Andy Carter, the National Lottery’s Senior Winners Advisor, said: “We tried very hard to find the ticket holder and it’s a real shame that they have missed out, but there is still one winner – the nation. This money, and all the interest earned over the 180 days, will now go to benefit projects, like V&A Dundee, all over the UK funded by the National Lottery.”

How To Avoid Missing Out on Prizes

Players who buy their EuroMillions tickets through authorised retailers are advised to familiarise themselves with the rules and be aware of how long they have to claim prizes. In the UK, winners must come forward within 180 days, while in the rest of Europe the claim period ranges from 60 days (France and Luxembourg) to three years (Austria).

The claims process depends on how much you have won, but it is essential that you keep your tickets safe as a prize cannot be paid out if your winning entry has been lost, stolen or damaged. Players are often asked when they come forward where they kept their all-important ticket, and answers have ranged from bedside lockers to jars in cupboards and even inside items of clothing.

You should also check your tickets on a regular basis. Many players will just have a quick glance after a draw to check how many of the winning numbers they matched, but might forget to look at the results of supplementary games such as the Millionaire Maker. Use the EuroMillions Checker to find out if you are a winner.

Advantages of playing EuroMillions Online

The best way to make sure that you do not miss out on a prize is to enjoy EuroMillions online. It is not only a quick and convenient method, but it also removes any danger of your ticket being lost or damaged. Your numbers will be checked automatically and you will be notified if you have won a prize. The majority of wins will also be paid directly into your online account.

If you take part online and join a syndicate, you can also boost your chances by grabbing a share of multiple lines. There is a £22 million jackpot (€25 million) up for grabs in tonight’s draw, and it could just be that the recent run of big winners continues.
