The win sees the couple claim the third biggest lottery prize in the UK and catapults the winners into 703rd in the Sunday Times Rich List 2011. This makes the lucky couple £1 million better off than David Bowe and also become wealthier than Sharon and Ozzy Osbourne, who have an estimated £95 million fortune.
The Euromillions results for Friday 7th October were 18, 26, 34, 38 and 42 and the lucky stars were 5 and 8. After the couple phoned Camelot on Saturday to confirm that they had matched the five main balls and two lucky stars, every lottery player was waiting to hear if the Euromillions winners would go public.
At the press conference at Down Hall Country House Hotel in Hertfordshire, Dave and Angela said: “We couldn’t believe our luck when we realised that we had matched all seven numbers, we had to pinch ourselves. We rang Camelot on Saturday to claim the prize and they confirmed that we were the only winners of the £101 million jackpot.”
To put the prize into perspective, the couple can now afford to buy 600 top of the range Ferrari 458 Italia’s (£170,000 each), pay off the UK tax bill from the London riots (£100m) or have Manchester City’s football ground named after them for the next 10 years.
In July 2011 Colin and Chris Weir, from Largs in Scotland claimed the biggest ever Euromillions prize won in the UK when they scooped £161 million. The second biggest UK win of £113 million was won by a single ticket-holder in October last year and the fourth biggest Euromillions winner claimed £84million in May 2011.
