How To Make Sure You Claim EuroMillions Prizes On Time

Some EuroMillions players find that there is a fine line between cashing in a huge prize and missing out completely. While winning tickets have been found in all sorts of strange places, much to the relief of their owners, there are unfortunately millions of pounds worth of prizes that go unclaimed every year.

Found In A Handbag

One ticket which could easily have been lost forever, or at least not found until it was too late, was discovered at the bottom of an Irish woman’s handbag recently. The lucky lady, from Kildare in Ireland, bought her entry for the 26th September draw at Dunnes Store in Newbridge.

She forgot her normal routine of checking her ticket the next day and only heard a few days later that there had been a local winner. She eventually tracked down her ticket in her bag and found that she had won €500,000 in the EuroMillions Plus supplementary game, allowing her to come forward this week with plenty of time to spare.

Another lucky Irish player earlier this year found a EuroMillions ticket worth €500,000 lying around in her car. She said at the time: “I was desperately looking for coins to fill the meter when I spotted four lottery tickets stuffed with rubbish in the side pocket of the driver’s door.” The woman, a farmer from the midlands, had bought the ticket a couple of months earlier and admitted that she might have missed out on the money if she had not been hunting for loose change.

Keep EuroMillions Tickets Safe

Other EuroMillions players have not been so fortunate. While you may stumble across a long-forgotten ticket in your bag, the car, the bin, down the side of your sofa or in your jeans pocket, it is best to find a secure place to keep your tickets. Whether it is in a safety deposit box or a bedside drawer, stow it away in a place where it will not be lost. If you sign the back of the ticket, it will also show that it belongs to you.

Be Aware of Expiry Dates

Each EuroMillions country has its own rules for when prizes must be claimed. In the UK, for example, you have 180 days to come forward with winning tickets, whereas in Ireland it is only 90 days. It is no good tucking your ticket away in a safe place if you then forget to check it and cash it in!

Choose Numbers Online

The best way to make sure you won’t lose your numbers, or forget to claim a prize, is to go online instead. If you choose numbers online, they will be safely stored and you don’t even need to check the results as you are automatically notified of any prize you win and smaller amounts are paid directly into your online account.
