Luckily, following a number of appeals by lottery officials and the local media, the winner came forward to claim their prize, but opted to remain anonymous. Andy Carter, the National Lottery’s senior winners’ advisor, was one of a number of people relieved to discover that the prize had been collected: “We’re delighted that the winner of this amazing prize has now come forward and we hope that they will enjoy their win,” he told reporters.
Carter was also keen to emphasise to players the importance of carefully examining their tickets on a regular basis: “We would like to remind all National Lottery players to check their tickets every time they play,” he said, before adding: “It would have been awful if the ticket-holder had missed out on this life-changing amount of money.”
Carter and his team can now turn their attentions to finding the rightful owners of a number of other prizes currently sitting unclaimed in the vaults at National Lottery headquarters. At present, there is over £9.5 million worth of EuroMillions prize money awaiting collection, including nine UK Millionaire Maker prizes of £1 million. There are even a trio of Mega Week ‘A Dip into Paradise’ rewards waiting to be claimed, which include a luxurious holiday in addition to the cash.
