Second UK Jackpot Winner of the Year Claims £58 Million

A player from the UK won a jackpot worth £58 million in the EuroMillions draw on Friday 17th April, a month to the day after another UK ticket holder won a £57 million jackpot.

The winning numbers in Friday’s draw were 16, 28, 32, 37, and 45, with Lucky Stars 1 and 11. It was revealed soon after the draw that one ticket holder from the UK had matched all five numbers and both Lucky Stars to win the jackpot, which was worth £58,366,487. It is the second jackpot won in the UK so far this year and came exactly one month after the first one was won on 17th March.

It was also revealed over the weekend that the winner had already approached the National Lottery to claim the prize. The winning ticket will be validated before the prize is paid out. It is not known whether the winner is an individual entrant or part of a syndicate, and no further information will be revealed unless they decide to go public.

The National Lottery’s Senior Winners’ Adviser, Andy Carter, said: “It is wonderful news that a lucky ticket holder has claimed this incredible prize. We will now focus on supporting the ticket holder through the validation and help them start to enjoy their win.”

The quick claim is a very different story to the first UK jackpot win of the year. Despite winning a prize of a similar value last month, the winner only claimed their prize a few days ago. After two weeks without hearing from the winner, the National Lottery put out an appeal to try and encourage them to step forward, revealing at the time that the winning ticket was purchased in South Ayrshire in Scotland.

On Friday, a month after the winning draw, the National Lottery disclosed that the first winner had come forward to claim the prize. So far no further information about the winner has been released, so it remains to be seen whether they will go public or remain anonymous.

The EuroMillions jackpot has now reset to €17 million (£14 million) for the next draw on Tuesday 21st April. Due to the ongoing coronavirus crisis the way in which you purchase tickets may have changed. In the UK, for instance, you can only purchase tickets in stores for the next two draws - see the coronavirus updates page for more information.

For safety reasons at this time, players are encouraged to buy tickets online. It is also a quicker and more convenient way to enter, as your numbers will be stored safely in your online account and you will be notified if you win
