Before Friday’s impressive jackpot win, the largest lottery prize won in the country stood at €126 million and was won on 8th May 2009 by a Spanish woman who claimed her prize anonymously.
This is not the first time a Spanish player has struck it lucky and won a EuroMillions jackpot prize this year as, over the past six months, a total of six Spanish ticket holders have won or shared a top tier prize. The most recent win brings the total amount of jackpot winnings for Spain to an incredible €321.1 million so far this year.
The luck continued for Spanish players in Friday’s draw as, in addition to three other European players, another Spanish ticket holder secured a second tier prize of €700,752 for matching all five main numbers and one Lucky Star.
In total, there were over 4.4 million winners in Friday’s draw who claimed prize money worth between £2.80 (€3.90) and £60,654 (€84,939). In addition to the winners in the main draw, one UK ticket holder became £1 million richer by matching the UK Millionaire Raffle code MKX532718 while the French player who matched the My Million code EK3268273 won the €1 million prize.
