Welsh Catering Girls Claim £25.4 Million EuroMillions Jackpot

A syndicate of six kitchen workers from Wales has claimed the EuroMillions jackpot of £25.4 million from last Friday’s draw. The friends were presented with their giant cheque at a presentation at Hensol Castle near Cardiff on Wednesday lunchtime, and revealed that they had already quit their jobs.

The all-female group, dubbed the Catering Girls, worked together at Neath Port Talbot Hospital. They matched the numbers 5, 12, 17, 33 and 41, plus Lucky Stars 4 and 9, in the draw on 3rd November and wasted little time in checking the ticket that syndicate leader Julie Saunders had safely stowed away in her living room cabinet.

Viva Las Vegas

Julie, Doreen Thompson, both 56, Louise Ward, 37, Sian Jones 54, and Julie Amphlett, 50, all decided to hand in their resignations at the same time. The sixth member, 73-year-old Jean Cairns, retired as a catering manager last year and was worried that ‘someone had died’ when Julie Saunders went round to giver her the good news.

The women all have exciting plans for how they will spend their winnings, which amount to more than £4 million each. Doreen is looking forward to a family holiday to Florida, Ms Amphlett has set her sights on a new house, car, handbag and shoes, while Mrs Saunders wants to jet off to Las Vegas.

She said: “I’m already planning a holiday to Las Vegas - I've always wanted to go and now I can be a high roller. It has been a dream to play the machines, maybe I'll have another win.”

Nearly Missed Out

The winning numbers were chosen by Louise, who was the last member to join the syndicate, and she told the press that she had considered leaving the group to save money ahead of her wedding next March. She said: “Imagine if I’d stopped, they were my numbers, so we’d never have won.”

Playing in a syndicate is a great way for EuroMillions fans to increase their chances of winning without spending more money on extra tickets, and the group from Wales can now feel thankful that they decided to join forces. They will not have to cook another hospital meal ever again and can look forward to a brighter financial future.

If you would like to experience the same winning feeling, you can try to win Friday’s big jackpot by picking up tickets from any authorised retailer or choosing numbers online. The top prize has been won in the UK for the past two Fridays in a row, and it could just be your turn this week. Good luck!
