UK Couple Who Won £61 Million EuroMillions Super Jackpot Revealed

Richard and Debbie Nuttall have been confirmed as winners of the £61 million jackpot. The couple lives in Lancashire and they found out about their win while on holiday in Fuerteventura for their 30th wedding anniversary.

In the draw held on Tuesday, 30th January, two tickets managed to match all the winning numbers. The jackpot on offer was worth an amazing £123 million (€144 million) as it was part of a Superdraw event. One of the winning tickets was purchased in Spain while the other was bought in the UK. No further information has been released about the Spanish winner. However, we have all the details about the UK winning ticket.

The lucky ticket was purchased by a couple from Lancashire, Richard and Debbie Nuttall. They decided to go public about their big win and spoke at a press event held at Mitton Hall Hotel in Clitheroe. They described the whole experience as being “surreal”, with Richard sharing that: "You dream of winning the lottery and you never think it's going to happen. It's taking a lot of computing."

Richard, who runs his own accountancy business, initially thought that he was a victim of “some sophisticated scam”. On the second day of their holiday in Fuerteventura, he woke up early in the morning to finish off some work tasks. He noticed the email from The National Lottery which said that there was some “exciting news” about his ticket. He then continued telling the story:

“So I checked my National Lottery account and saw the balance had gone up and we’d won £2.60. Fair enough. I shut my laptop, had breakfast and then we set off for the day, driving around the island. We enjoyed the sea views, blue skies and windsurfers before heading back.”

In the afternoon, he noticed another email advising him to check his account. “I thought it was odd and there must be a glitch in the system to get a duplicate email but I logged in again to my National Lottery account to check. We were totally stunned, it said we had won over £61 million!”

“My first thought was it must be a scam or there was some mix up. I know it sounds crazy but we couldn’t think straight!,” Richard said.

As the phone signal was poor and he couldn’t get in touch with The National Lottery to confirm their win, he called one of his daughters and asked her to sign into their online account to double check if they won.

“She put in my details and then just kept repeating ’oh my god, oh my god, oh my god!!’ It must be real, this was the official National Lottery website we were all looking at.

“Well, by this time me and Debs are going mental, jumping up and down in our car seats, punching the air, thumping the dashboard, the car must have been rocking, it was the whole Delboy and Rodney scene when they finally became millionaires outside Sotheby's,” Richard concluded.

Some of the things the couple first bought included a new set of golf clubs for Richard and a new hair dryer for Debbie. The couple wants to buy a new family home in Lancashire and a holiday home in Portugal. While Richard wishes to dedicate more time to playing golf, Debbie wants a bigger garden, a greenhouse and some extra land which their dog Monty can enjoy.
